Trotters Cafe, Joondalup – Lovely Jubbly!

Trotters Cafe

Trotters Cafe

Only Fools and Horses is one of the greatest TV comedies of all time, and followed the lives of South London market trader Del Boy and his brother Rodney in episodes spanning over 30 years.

Its catchphrases have entered everyday language and I apologise for using many of them in this article, which is actually about a new cafe that pays homage to the show, Trotters Cafe in Joondalup.

Cafe

Trotters Cafe is brought to you by the folks who run El Mexicano and is conveniently located right next door to it, directly opposite Bunnings.

Although it’s “UK” themed don’t let that scare you off, it’s not all chip butties and fry-ups – Trotters Cafe is about quality, affordable cafe food. The pies & sausage rolls are hand-made in store, and I tried a chicken & leek pie which was delicious – flaky pastry and tasty filling made with good quality meat.

There are also plenty of fresh rolls and cakes in the counter.

Alas they had run out of “this time next year we’ll be millionaires” slice. I’ll be here all week, folks…

One of the unique things about Trotters Cafe is the hot buffet selection & salad bar, with selections changing every day. The hot food was still in production when I was there, but I managed to peek into the kitchen…

Chilli con Carne

That’s a lot of chilli con carne, presumably not all for today’s lunch buffet…

Meatballs

…and a lot of balls.

Lettuce

Mange tout? No, just lettuce.

Coffee

I was surprised by the amount of people coming into such a new cafe, there was a constant stream of local workers and shoppers grabbing coffee and pies.  Their strategy is to keep prices low while providing quality food, and it looks like they might be onto a winning formula.

Trotters Cafe 035

Trotters Cafe is open seven days a week, from 6:30am Monday to Saturday and from 7:30am on Sundays. I heard a rumour that owner and chef supremo Max runs the show on Sundays and likes to cook breakfast, so do yourself a favour and pay Trotters Cafe a visit.
