The MasterChef Jaffle Challenge: Making Jock’s Favourite Toastie

In celebration of MasterChef’s recent jaffle challenge, the lovely folks at Channel 10 sent me everything I needed to create Jock Zonfrillo’s favourite jaffle – mortadella, cheese and green olive. They even sent me a Breville “Original 74” jaffle maker, a fantasticly solid tribute to the classic model.

There’s a few interesting things going on in this sandwich – no butter (the bread is sprayed with red wine vinegar), mozzarella and smoked cheeses, and mortadella on the outside of the sandwich. It practically becomes one with the bread, and is a clever move indeed.

It’s a fine sandwich, with the vinegar and olives bringing a sharpness that cuts through the meat & cheese. See the recipe below to try it for yourself.
