Perth Gin Wins Gold Medal at World Spirits Awards

Australian Distilling Co., the team behind premium craft spirit, Perth Gin, are pleased to announce that the newly-launched gin has won its first award just a few months after its inception.

The gin was awarded a Gold Medal in the New Western Style category at the World Spirits Awards, an event that compares high-quality spirits from across the globe. After only launching to market back in November last year, Perth Gin has already seen an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Western Australians.

“Since Perth Gin launched, the response from the hospitality community across Western Australia has been fantastic; there is certainly a real appetite for quality spirits in Perth, and for gin in particular,” says Michael Hickinbotham, Founder of Australian Distilling Co.

“We knew that we had crafted a beautiful gin with Perth Gin, and we’re so proud to find through our award win that those across the globe enjoy the spirit of Perth too.”

The World Spirits Awards take place in Austria and are considered by those in the industry to be among the most highly regarded awards for distilling worldwide. Established in 2004, the awards take place annually and competitors in the New Western Style categories are judged based primarily on the harmonies between juniper and more contemporary botanicals.

While Perth Gin starts out as a traditional, juniper-forward London Dry Gin made using the finest base spirit, this base is then flavoured with botanicals such as warming boronia and lingering lemon myrtle. Using local ingredients where possible, these additions transform the gin into a more contemporary style that captures the essence of Perth.

Australian Distilling Co.’s Master Distiller, Dr Graham Jones, developed over 30 recipes for Perth Gin in the search for one that best reflected the city of its namesake.

“The characters of juniper are accentuated with woody notes of sandalwood, cedar and overtones of cinnamon, whilst the floral notes are driven by boronia and orris. The citrus zing in the gin comes from the lemon myrtle, which is complimented by a hint of cardamom.”

Perth Gin can be purchased online at or in bottle shops, bars and restaurants across Perth.
