Perth breakfast review: Stimulatte, Subiaco

Stimulatte

Stimulatte

We headed to Subiaco early this bright spring morning for a quick breakfast at Stimulatte before heading to the Subi Farmers Market. There isn’t much space to sit inside, but thankfully the sun was shining so sitting outside was very pleasant.

Stimulatte is located on Hay Street, just after the Santa Fe restaurant if you’re heading towards Rokeby Road. It’s also right next door to a funeral director, which must make for some somber but busy times…

Stimulatte

Coffee was from Five Senses, and my long mac was really good, not at all bitter and strong enough to wake me up. It was so good that I had a second.

Here’s today’s food menu, with plenty of interesting options. There might not be something for everyone on this menu, although you could always order eggs on toast with extras if necessary.

Stimulatte

I chose the potato rosti with quinoa, chorizo and poached eggs ($17.50), which is one of the gluten free options on the menu. The rosti was perfectly crunchy and well seasoned, although there just wasn’t enough of it to go with the perfectly poached eggs and generously thick hunks of chorizo. This was a really nice dish, although I felt that it needed double the amount of rosti or a piece of toast.

Renay ordered the gigantic ricotta hotcake with oat crumble, fresh raspberries & strawberries and caramel double cream ($17.50). This worked well as a dish, with the oat crumble adding a great crunch to the soft and fluffy hotcake although the caramel flavour in the cream could have been stronger.

Stimulatte

There were plenty of customers popping in and out of Stimulatte while we were there, and given the quality of the coffee that is no surprise. The food was good, if not amazing, but there’s an interesting selection of dishes to choose from so it’s certainly worth trying if you’re in the area.
