In his first collaboration since closing Must Winebar, Perth hospitality heavyweight Russell Blaikie is teaming up with Fremantle small bar Strange Company for a one-off Japanese-inspired dining event on Tuesday, March 09.

Joining forces with Strange Company’s Head Chef Christophe Mannon-Bakaj, the pair will be taking cues from the recently released Roku Japanese Gin, serving up a 5-course menu brimming with flavour, finesse and a few strange surprises along the way.

When it comes to drinks, Strange Company’s bar team led by Elise Godwin will be serving up a distinct, gin-based beverage offering utilising Roku’s Japanese Gin offering from the Suntory Spirits Company.

For many years Russell has enjoyed using his expertise as a specialist in the industry he loves, working with operators, producers and teams who share his vision for the hospitality community.

“I’m so lucky to have been part of the Perth Hospo scene for such a long time, it’s incredibly vibrant, with an inspired group of passionate people who spend their life creating amazing experiences for customers.”

“After 19 years at Must, I’m now taking the opportunity to work with like-minded people to assist them with their hospitality businesses, occasionally jumping back in the kitchen with the crew and produce I’ve had the pleasure of working with and enjoying over the years.”

“The chance to get behind the pass with Chris and the team at Strange Company will be my first foray back since closing my business. I’ve loved Japanese food since my first visit in the 80’s, so I’ll play with the flavours and techniques of Japan, experimenting with Roku Gin and bouncing ideas off the team to serve up something that’ll get people relishing the food & gin matches we come up with,” said Blaikie.

Tickets are $150 per head inclusive of food & drinks (5 courses with matched beverages) and will be limited to 100 seats with staggered seating times (6 & 8pm).
