Plenty Thai, Shafto Lane – Perth lunch review

Plenty Thai

Plenty ThaiNow that I’m able to eat semi-normally after my gastric sleeve surgery, my workmate Andrew and I have started venturing out at lunch time to explore the options nearby. One place we recently tried was Plenty Thai in Shafto Lane.

It’s always busy – a good sign – and hadn’t stopped there before because it appears that they don’t do takeaway, but that isn’t the case if you ask. There’s plenty of seating if you’ve got time to eat in, just be prepared to share a table with some new friends.

Plenty ThaiThere’s a good selection of fresh food ready to go, plus other items you can order. The combo meals come with rice or phad thai noodles from $9.50, depending on how many choices you make.

Plenty ThaiI chose the panang beef – one of my favourite Thai dishes – and red curry chicken with rice (two dish combo for $11.50). I was really impressed with the serving size and was surprised to receive two containers, one filled with rice and the other with both dishes, nicely separated down the middle. I enjoy the chilli turned right up, and absolutely loved the panang beef – you probably wouldn’t want to eat this if chilli isn’t your thing, especially not at lunch!

Andrew ordered the “chef’s special” chicken fried noodles ($12.90), and the wait was well over five minutes which wouldn’t normally have been a problem, but it’s a busy place and there’s nowhere to wait for takeaway except in front of the counter where you’re in the way.

We’ll definitely be going back to Plenty Thai, the food was delicious – the pre-prepared dishes were as good as you get in many “normal” Thai restaurants. Just be careful what you order if you don’t like it too spicy!
