Jus Burgers pull the pork at the Mindarie Marina Chilli Festival

Mindarie Marina

it’s nearly time for the 2016 Araluen Fremantle Chill Festival but for those north of Perth there was a much smaller chilli festival at the Mindarie Marina last Saturday afternoon.

Regular readers will know that I love spicy food, and have a particularly high chilli tolerance. My gastric sleeve operation put a stop to that for a while – head said yes but stomach said hell no – but I refused to give in and things seem to be pretty much back to “normal” now. I don’t think I’d be brave enough to tackle anything too crazy…but in saying that, I’m probably less likely to have breathing problems or a heart attack these days πŸ™‚

Anyway, it’s nearly time for the 2016 Araluen Fremantle Chill Festival (March 12-13 – click here for details) but for those further north there was a much smaller chilli festival at the Mindarie Marina last Saturday afternoon.

Mindarie MarinaI’d never been to the marina before and was struck by how beautiful it was – this must be great for the locals on regular weekends as I expect most of the tourists still go to Hillarys.

Mindarie MarinaOf course a chilli festival is all about the tastings, and there were a few of the regular stalls to try. As festivals go this one was pretty small, probably about 20 stalls all up, but there was no shortage of people and the event was quite crowded.

Mindarie MarinaI was finally able to try some of the great chutneys & jams from Sublime Spices! I look forward to spending some more time with their products…

Mindarie Marina…but even better than tastings is the chilli-enhanced food items. This pizza looked rather good.

Mindarie MarinaThe most popular food stall was Jus Burgers, who were producing a constant stream of pulled pork burgers for the hungry crowd.

Mindarie MarinaHaving just one item on the menu was very smart, and the wait for burgers was impressively short. The addition of a reaonably spicy chilli relish to the finished burger was the only optional extra.

Mindarie MarinaNo chance of running out of pork…

Mindarie MarinaLots of balsamic onions. Delicious.

Mindarie MarinaAnd here’s the finished article. Tasty pork…soft brioche…crunchy slaw…sweet onions…cheese…chilli….heaven. Not too hot either, even with the relish. It’s no surprise that this was so popular.

Mindarie MarinaBring on March 12-13!!
