Food is the Best Bit of Travelling – Here’s Why!

Meeting new people, sightseeing and the ability to take amazing train tours are just some of the reasons to travel. From being able to take those amazing selfies with backgrounds from across the world, to being able to see wildlife in its habitat, people choose to travel for a multitude of reasons.

They go on cruises for the amazing buffet food. They go to Disney World for the Mickey Mouse waffles. They go on the Blue Train to be able to travel along the coast and eat delicious food along the way. Food offers endless possibilities to people, and it’s a big part of travelling the world. Different areas of the world come with different flavours and dishes as well as different cuisines. If you want to see more and do more around the world, you need to make sure you are following the food. Here is why food is the best aspect of travel.

  • Trying new things becomes so much easier. Because there are so many dishes in other countries, you get a chance to try endless possibilities with your food. You get to open your eyes and your taste buds to a whole new range of flavour profiles and you also get to understand why certain dishes are more popular than others. Going to Poland you might be able to try pierogies, and going to Singapore means that you get to deep dive into the street food. Regardless, there is always something new to try.
  • You get to try food that you know but in a new way. You may think you can whip up a mean spaghetti bolognese, but until you’ve travelled to Rome and had it authentically cooked for you, you don’t know what you’re missing. Discovering new foods in a foreign country is amazing, but so is trying food that you’ve always tried. The mozzarella cheese you’ll find in Florence tastes so much better than the cheese you get from your local supermarket. The croissants that you might buy from the bakery in the morning on your way to work are completely different when you’re buying them from a patisserie in Paris.
  • Food tells a story. The food of the country can tell you an awful lot about the culture, and it’s amazing to be able to go to a different country and see how much you can tell about a culture. The motto of Costa Rica is pura Vida which means pure life. Their staple meal consists of sweet plantains, fish or chicken or beef, and rice, and all of it is cooked very fresh. When you look at places like Paris though, find cuts of meat, expensive soft cheeses and beautiful wines are what they are known for. Food tells a story and it tells a story of their history.
  • It brings people together. You can meet new people and experience new things purely because you have tried new foods in a new place. You should never be afraid to taste new things, and you’re going to be able to understand exactly what it means to bond over a dish when you meet new people because of a meal. Asking the locals when you travel about their favourite dishes will help you to understand local culture and get involved.
