Exploring the Menu at Fremantle’s Federal Hotel

Fremantle’s Federal Hotel opened in 1887 and has been renovated several times throughout its long life. Now a heritage site, the three-level hotel is a modern Australian pub. It’s a bright and open space with different areas to drink and dine. Private events are catered for, from corporate functions to private celebrations. Accommodation is also available.

I was recently invited to try out the Federal Hotel’s food after some changes in the kitchen. The menu is based on traditional Australian pub food with small and large sharing dishes, main courses, stone baked pizzas and salads. There are also daily specials. In addition to a wide range of beers, the largely-Australian wine list includes varieties by the glass and bottle.

The dishes I tried are pictured below, and there’s a wide variety of dishes available, making the Federal a great dining option for groups and families. The general quality of the food was far above standard “pub grub”, from the excellent sourdough pizza base to the generous burgers and succulent roasted lamb and pork belly. All of the side dishes, from chips upwards, were clearly more than an afterthought. Dietary requirements are well catered for, with plenty of gluten free options.

If you’re looking for a Fremantle dining destination or a pub-style venue for a special event, the Federal Hotel is highly recommended.
