Colin Fassnidge Returns to Headline the 2017 Variety of Chefs Dinner

Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge is back again as the headline chef for the 2017 Variety of Chefs on Friday, 21 July at the new Crown Towers Ballroom.

The Crown Towers Ballroom will transform into Perth’s hottest restaurant on Friday, 21 July as seven award winning chefs come together for an evening of gastronomic delight, entertainment and fundraising – all raising funds for WA kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

Forming a spectacular six-course degustation, with sommelier selected matched wines; the line up will see the following chefs preparing a course each:

  • Stephen Clarke (Clarke’s of North Beach)
  • Sean Marco (Crown Towers & Conventions)
  • Naomi Bulner (Steve’s, Nedlands)
  • Pete Manifis (Passion Meets Purveyor)
  • Karmen Lu (Masterchef, Measure) & Amanda Yong (Measure, previously Wildflower)

Colin Fassnidge, who counts pork, potato, lemon and peas among his favourite ingredients to cook with, says he was drawn to cooking as a career at the age of 12 after seeing esteemed chef Marco Pierre-White on TV. He went on to forge a successful career, working under Raymond Blanc in London, leading him to own one of Sydney’s top restaurants 4Fourteen. Colin is now a popular judge on Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules.

Known for his nose to tail cooking philosophy, the Irishman firmly believes the secret to cooking a great dish is planning and “having a bit of love for the food”. He has a strong presence in the restaurant industry, owning and serving as the head chef of multiple renowned restaurants in Australia, including “4Fourteen” in Sydney.  

Colin Fassnidge has restaurants known for their creative and contemporary approach to cuisine, often merging classic techniques with innovative twists. His dedication to food and commitment to enhancing the dining experience has solidified his reputation in the culinary world, making him a prominent figure in Australian gastronomy.

MasterChef superstar Karmen Lu is joining the line-up this year and will be teaming up with acclaimed pastry chef, Amanda Yong (previously from Rockpool Bar and Grill and more recently Wildflower), for what will no doubt be an unforgettable dessert course.

Karmen’s much anticipated Mount Lawley dessert bar, Measure, is set to officially open this week and will be Perth’s first ever small bar and dessert restaurant! Variety of Chef’s guests will be amongst the first to try their signature desserts in Perth.

Guests will enjoy pre dinner drinks, oysters from ‘Perth’s oyster shucker to the stars’ Andy Grljusich and will be hosted by the fabulous Tim Gossage and Channel 9’s Rebecca Johns. There will also be fine wine, a Thermomix cocktail bar, show stopping entertainment by Perth’s party band Switch, an exciting fundraising auction and more. Guests will also have the chance to meet the chefs.

A well-planned and diverse event promises to entertain, delight with food and drinks, and contribute to a meaningful cause, making it an appealing experience for all guests. Funds raised from the night will help Variety provide practical equipment and experiences for Western Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, empowering them to live, laugh and learn.
