A decadent breakfast at Mary Street Bakery, Highgate

Mary Street Bakery

I went to Mary Street Bakery for breakfast when it first opened and was a little uninspired, but the menu and service have come a long way since then. There’s a really interesting selection of dishes to choose from, not to mention the great selection of baked goods to take home (or eat in the car) for second breakfast.

Check out a slightly out of dateΒ menu hereΒ (good luckΒ working out where some of the commas should be…)

Mary Street Bakery

I started with a mocha which was pretty average, although what I really went there for was a dish you’ve probably seen on social media – fried chicken, buttermilk pancake, maple syrup, peanuts and a fried egg ($22).

Not a particularly healthy start to a Sunday, but wow! A huge, fluffy pancake covered in loads of crisp but soft chicken, moistened with maple syrup & crushed peanuts – the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. Apparently there’s chilli in there as well but I didn’t spot it.I also thought the egg was unnecessary but hey, it’s breakfast so why not? Looks good in the photo anyway πŸ™‚

Mary Street Bakery opens at 7am every day, and if you’re after breakfast I’d suggest getting there early as it gets very busy. I’ll be going back soon as there’s a fewΒ moreΒ dishes I’d like to try…
