Breakfast buffet time at the Australian College of Applied Education!

Regular readers will recall that I work at the Australian College of Applied Education, Perth’s premiere cookery & hospitality school, and have seen my reports on the college’s regular promotional lunch buffets. If they left you salivating, you’ll be excited to hear that ACAE is now holding a once-a-term breakfast buffet that is open to the general public!

The inaugural breakfast buffet was held earlier this week, and you’ll be disappointed that you missed out – especially since tickets were only $12. All items were made in-house by the students, including bacon, sausages, bread, pastries, granola, preserves…

As with any buffet held at ACAE, there was a wide selection of food to choose from. You could even start with something healthy if you felt the urge…

…but of course most diners headed straight for the hot selection. Even the bacon and sausages were made in-house, which was a real treat compared to the standard fare usually served at buffets.

Each ACAE buffet is not only an important assessment, but also an opportunity for cookery & patisserie students to showcase their skills and creativity.

How about a fresh omelette…

This was one of the best croissants I’ve ever eaten, and the house made butter and preserves (apricot and plum & ginger) made it even better.

The college’s Culinary Arts Manager Rohan has every right to be proud of this event, as his students and trainers did a terrific job – the food was certainly of a higher standard than you’ll find at most breakfast buffets. I should point out that although I work in the college, I paid my $12 along with everyone else and was a very satisfied customer (who wouldn’t be at that price?) Follow me on Twitter or like ACAE’s Facebook page to make sure you don’t miss out on the next one.

ACAE is located at 641 Wellington Street (across from Perth Arena and opposite the new Kings Square) and the College Cafe is open from 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday. Even when the breakfast buffet isn’t operating, it’s a great place to get a reasonably priced coffee, breakfast or lunch (and some very cheap cakes…)
