Visit the Southern Forests for a Genuinely Extraordinary Food & Farm Experience

Located 300km south of Perth, the Southern Forests includes the towns of Manjimup, Pemberton, Northcliffe and Walpole. I’ve visited the region several times this year, as part of the WA Celebrity Signature Dish competition and for Truffle Kerfuffle. The region is renowned for its world-class produce including more than 50 types of fruit and vegetables, marron and beef cattle. The rich soils and cooler climate are perfect for wine production, and the area is home to over 50 wineries. Manjimup is the only place Black truffle is grown in commercial quantities in the southern hemisphere. I’ve been fortunate to visit many of the region’s picturesque destinations and spend time with local producers and business owners. I love the climate, and have always found the people very welcoming. Saturday Lunch at Bad Apples Bar, Ardross

Bad Apples Bar is located among the busy group of restaurants and shops around the corner of Riseley Street and Canning Highway in Ardross. Renay and I were recently invited to sample the menu, and went along for lunch on a Saturday. The lengthy, well stocked bar is the main feature of the venue, although the Enomatic Wine System you can see at the back stands out – more on that later. Most of the seating is bar-style, although there are couches scattered about and some more traditional seating outside. The menu is made up of sharing dishes, a selection of pizzas and a few main courses. Shared dishes are mostly around the $10-18 range, pizzas $18-25 and mains $26-28.
