I was invited to a blogger’s event to mark its opening and not being much of a seafood eater I declined at first, but was convinced to come along by owner Phil who promised that my need for meat would be satisfied…
The general concept of Grab a Yabby is to choose your seafood, pick a sauce (Cajun, XO or garlic butter), add some chilli if you like, throw it all in a bag and get stuck in. It’s a messy process, with bibs and gloves essential (seriously, don’t bother asking for cutlery).
The seafood on offer includes Alaskan king crab, marron, Morton Bay bugs, prawns and yabbies (no surprises there).
Thankfully, meat eaters are indeed catered for and I wasn’t disappointed with the chicken sliders, and pork and beef ribs. I normally prefer pork over beef, but in this case the BBQ beef ribs were the dish I would go back for; they were tender, juicy and packed with flavour. And huge.
Pricing of the seafood is at market value, and it’s not a cheap place to eat (e.g. Alaskan King Crab was $75) but the food was of great quality, the servings substantial and the fun factor was very high. I don’t recall many bloggers’ events where I’ve looked back at the photos to see the whole group having that much fun.
A visit to Grab a Yabby is highly recommended if you’re a seafood lover, but don’t rule it out it if meat is your thing – just as long as you’re not squeamish about the mess.
