Last weekend, Renay and I finally made it to Meat Candy. I’ve been dying to get my hands on their Nashville-style fried chicken for ages, but we tend to eat out in the day rather than at night so it took a little while for us to fit it into our calendar. Arriving just after 12pm on Saturday, we had no problem getting a table and sat outside in the comfortable courtyard.
The lunch menu is fairly simple, not that it really matters – you’re there for the fried chicken, right?
I chose the lunch plate ($17) which comes with fried chicken (“hot” heat, of course), a slab of Meat Candy’s amazing white bread, coleslaw and pickles. You really don’t need anything else. It’s not an exaggeration to say that this is the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. Crisp, moist and not a hint of oil to be seen. Fantastic. All I could ask for is some more chilli 😉
Renay ordered the fried chicken sandwich, with iceberg, cheese, ranch dressing and a side of fries ($17) – as you can see, it is one hell of a sandwich. Great fries, too.
We also ordered a serving of the hash potatoes ($5), a generous bowl of fried mashed potato cubes that were quite moreish. I also tried the house-made pink grapefruit and orange soda ($6) which was very refreshing – I resisted the temptation to add booze, this time…
