Visit the Southern Forests for a Genuinely Extraordinary Food & Farm Experience

Located 300km south of Perth, the Southern Forests includes the towns of Manjimup, Pemberton, Northcliffe and Walpole. I’ve visited the region several times this year, as part of the WA Celebrity Signature Dish competition and for Truffle Kerfuffle. The region is renowned for its world-class produce including more than 50 types of fruit and vegetables, marron and beef cattle. The rich soils and cooler climate are perfect for wine production, and the area is home to over 50 wineries. Manjimup is the only place Black truffle is grown in commercial quantities in the southern hemisphere. I’ve been fortunate to visit many of the region’s picturesque destinations and spend time with local producers and business owners. I love the climate, and have always found the people very welcoming. Oh, and don’t forget the spectacular food 🙂 Visitors to the region can now enjoy a similar experience on a 5-day / 4-night “Genuinely Extraordinary…

Peel Region wins 2017 WA’s Celebrity Signature Dish

The competition concluded with a cook-off at Elizabeth Quay yesterday as part of the WA Day festival, and the winner was Mark Gibson representing the Peel region with a dish of Slow Braised Harvey Beef Shin with Roasted Sweet Potato and Pickled Vegetables. “I have discovered so much about the region during this campaign,” said Mark. “I always generally thought of the Peel in terms of coast, but the more I found out…that’s one of the reasons we selected beef as the hero ingredient, the…

Nothing Beets Genuine School Grown Produce

A special consignment of beetroot produced by budding young horticulturists is making its way to the Genuinely Southern Forests Allstates Farms market floor today as Manjimup Senior High School students harvest their wares and send them to market. Senior horticulture students, led by their teacher Mr Andrew Pound, have produced various crops and having reached maturity were looking for options to sell their produce and looked to the Southern Forests Food Council (SFFC) for advice. “The students are keen to learn about food production and understand the supply chain, so it was great to be able to link in with the great work that the Food Council are doing.” said Mr Pound. SFFC Produce Liaison Officer, Anthony East was impressed by the initiative and visited the class to demonstrate how to harvest and prepare the beetroot crop for sale through the Genuinely Southern Forests market floor at Canning Vale. “We…
