Returning to Perth last weekend for its sixth year, UnWined is a two-day celebration of wine and food held in Subiaco’s picturesque Market Square Park. This year’s event featured 37 wineries, and of course some local food.
I was recently invited to attend a long-table dinner by “Perth Meets Peru”, a group dedicated to bringing the cuisine and culture of Peru to the people of Perth.
I’d already had a sneak preview of the Northbridge Brewing Company’s Chilli Fest menu, and yesterday attended the official launch to try some more of the specially created dishes. Items on the menu for the festival include chilli mud crabs, the 18″ heat-seeker sub, pulled pork nachos, monkey bread, buffalo wings and two dessert dishes – a chilli chocolate fondant and deep fried ice cream. Master Brewer Ken has even brewed a special batch of chilli-infused beer to wash it all down. The star of the show is the Trinidad Scorpion chilli, which features in a few dishes and hides among the wagyu sliders if you’re brave enough to take on the Russian Roulette challenge! I’m a fan of the pickled scorpion, but it’s not for beginners 🙂 NBC’s Chilli Fest runs from September 12-18.
Last week saw a collaboration dinner between Woodfire Italian Restaurant and Swan Valley boutique winery Little Black Dog Wines. Featuring a traditional shared table menu just like Chef Lorenzo’s Nonna would have cooked for the family back in Italy, each course was served with a glass of carefully-paired wine.
As regular readers will know, living in Ellenbrook means that I don’t get to Fremantle as often as I’d like, despite there being many restaurants in the area on my “must visit” list. One of them is Propeller in North Freo, so I was thrilled to be invited to attend last week’s “Truffle, Pig & Wine Discovery Degustation” dinner.
We recently attended the first of four “Tastes of Adelphi” wine dinners at Adelphi Grill in the Parmelia Hilton Perth, this one featuring wines from Adelaide winemaker O’Leary Walker Wines.
Perth’s Longest Lunch returned to the Crown Perth Grand Ballroom last Friday, and saw nearly 900 people come together to celebrate the best of WA food and wine while raising funds for the Brightwater Care Group.
