According to its website, Marco’s Organic Pizza in Joondanna was the recipient of radio station 6PR’s “Perth’s Best Pizza” award in 2011. Now I’m not sure what makes 6PR pizza experts, but working on the assumption that winning an award is better than not winning one, we decided to give them a try.
We ordered two large pizzas & a garlic bread ($34), which we had to go and pick up because they only take cash. I was surprised when I arrived to find the shop full of people waiting for pizzas, which is usually a good sign (unless they’re shouting and / or throwing things). There’s plenty of comfy-looking chairs to sit in, although my order was being packed up just as I walked through the door – I was told 15 minutes and that was pretty much spot on.
You can download the menu here – as well as the usual varieties there’s a selection of “gourmet” pizzas with ingredients like seafood, prosciutto, feta etc.
Quite predictably I ordered the mexican (cheese, ham, pepperoni, onion, capsicum, fresh tomato & chilli). There was definitely chilli on board but it wasn’t too hot, I’d rank it about a 4/10 on the heat scale of Brando’s in Vic Park, for example.
Renay ordered the chicken (cheese, onion, pineapple, chicken breast & herbs).
We both really enjoyed our pizzas, and it was evident that they use high quality, fresh ingredients. The crust was light & crispy and didn’t collapse under the generous mound of toppings. The garlic bread was a solid, tasty loaf with real garlic throughout.
